As we work hard and approach the end of the year, many things accumulate in our hearts, including earthly desires, fatigue, suffering, jealousy, envy, anger, greed, and more. Shussui-e is an event where we cleanse ourselves of these things along with the end-of-year cleaning, and recharge our hearts by chanting the Nembutsu.
People reflect on how they will live their lives to the fullest in the new year, declare their determination before Buddha and their ancestors, and chant the Nembutsu.
