Shokoji Temple Sutra Copying Session
The Shokoji Temple copying sutras is not a calligraphy class. Therefore, the purpose is not to write characters well. Through copying sutras, we aim to reaffirm the "essence of things" that is necessary to make daily life peaceful and rich, and by chanting the Nembutsu, we hope to be welcomed into the Pure Land at the end, just like our beloved ancestors.

Participation: Please apply by phone, email, or through the designated application form.
*You can participate without making a reservation, but depending on the situation, we may not be able to provide you with a seat.

The appeal of the Shokoji Temple Sutra Copying Society
1. Relaxed atmosphere
By copying sutras in the silence of the main hall, you can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy a special time to reflect on yourself.
2. Calm your mind with chanting the Nembutsu
As a nembutsu dojo, Shokoji Temple places nembutsu at the forefront of practical Buddhism. Even during the sutra copying session, we chant nembutsu at the beginning and end, which allows us to reset our minds and increase our concentration.
3. Reaffirming the Essence through Sermons
Each month we have a different theme for self-reflection and new realizations. Through copying sutras and sermons, we will reaffirm the important things that will be the foundation for living a peaceful and rich life in the future.
4. Beginners are welcome
The charm of the Shokoji Sutra Shakai is the friendly and gentle atmosphere that makes it easy for new participants to feel at ease.

1. Visiting the mountain
Please come to the main hall 5 minutes before the scheduled time.
2. Reception and registration
First, please register your name at the reception desk.
3.Selecting a role model
Please choose a model to use for copying sutras. You can copy any sutra you like.
4. Preparation of tools
All tools such as brushes and ink will be provided at the temple, so please come empty-handed.
5. Wait quietly
Please wait calmly in the main hall until the start time.
6. Sermons and Nembutsu
When the appointed time arrives, you will chant the Nembutsu together with the chief priest and then listen to a sermon by the chief priest.
7. Reciting Buddhist Sutras
The head priest will read a short sutra, so please calm your mind and listen carefully.
8. Start copying sutras
It's finally time to copy the sutra. It's okay if you can't write well or make mistakes. Just concentrate and trace the characters, calm your mind, and engage in introspection.
9. 5 minutes before the end
Five minutes before the end of the session, the head priest will read a short sutra again.
10. Nembutsu and the End
Finally, the sutra copying session comes to an end with one last chant of the Nembutsu.
