For whom should the memorial service/funeral be held?
Funerals and memorial services are not held for the dead. They are held for the living, for ourselves. They are held so that we can reflect on ourselves through dialogue with the dead, and live our lives to the fullest, calmly, and healthily.
Why did I choose to use the word "the dead" instead of "important people" or "deceased people"? This is because what the "dead" meant to each person is completely different.
Some people see them as "precious beings" or "beings we never wanted to lose," while others see them as "a bad example to learn from," or "beings whose death makes us feel refreshed." Most people are in a gradation of emotions somewhere in between.
No matter what the "dead person" meant to you, that person is already gone. From now on, you will live in a world without that person. You must look at yourself and the environment around you and think about "how it is now" and "what you will do from now on" as you go through life. Funerals and memorial services are one of the most effective environments for introspection.
That is why funerals and memorial services must be held.
