We would like to inform you that a memorial service was held on January 28th.
The Gokie is a memorial service held to commemorate the virtues of Honen Shonin on the anniversary of his death on January 25th.

As you all know, Honen Shonin taught that anyone can go to the Pure Land by chanting the Nembutsu, "Namu Amida Butsu."
This year marks 850 years since Honen Shonin founded the Jodo sect in 1175.

On the day, more than 20 parishioners gathered. Thank you for attending despite the cold weather.

We read out the inscriptions for each stupa that had been applied for, and at the end of the ceremony we all chanted the Nembutsu together and renewed our resolve.

After the sutra offering, the head priest spoke about why we value Buddhist practices. Here)

Finally, each person brought a stupa to be placed on the graves in the temple grounds and Joen.

The next Buddhist ceremony will be held on the spring equinox. Until then, the weather will likely be colder than usual, so please take care of yourself.
