This month, the annual sutra copying event was held. Today, it was cold enough that it looked like it might snow, and it was raining lightly, but 12 people participated despite the cold weather. There were also a few new participants, and they seemed to find peace of mind through their first experience of copying sutras.
The Shokoji Temple copying sutra meeting places emphasis on introspection and chanting the Nembutsu. All participants were asked to chant the Nembutsu twice, once before starting and once after copying the sutra. It seemed to be a valuable time for participants to forget the hustle and bustle of their daily lives and quietly move their brushes, organize their thoughts, and reexamine their hearts.
In this lecture, we talked about the merits and demerits of words. Through words, we can deepen our thoughts and communicate, but on the other hand, words can also hurt people. We reaffirmed with the participants that it is important to be "completely sincere" rather than "a yardstick of good and evil." Through this sutra copying session, where participants could face their inner selves through copying sutras, we were able to once again focus on the importance of words.
What is the appeal of the Shokoji Sutra Copying Society?
1. Relaxed atmosphere
Copying sutras in the silence of the main hall provides a special time to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reflect on oneself.
2. Calm your mind with chanting the Nembutsu
Shokoji is a nembutsu dojo, and nembutsu is the first step in practical Buddhism. All activities, including sutra copying, begin and end with nembutsu. In the process, we reset our minds and improve our concentration.
3. Reaffirming the Essence Through Sermons
Each month we will look at a different theme and reflect on ourselves, laying the foundation for a peaceful life going forward.
4. Beginners are welcome
There is a relaxed and friendly atmosphere that makes even new participants feel at ease.
