As we announced at the sutra copying event in July, the air conditioner in the main hall broke down. We requested repairs, but it became clear that they would not be able to be fixed in time for the event. As such, and in consideration of the risk of heatstroke, we decided to have only the priest conduct the service this time.
Nevertheless, two or three people who came on the day took precautions against the heat and were able to join us and perform a small service.
For 13 years, I have taken for granted that I would be able to use air conditioning, but this day made me realize once again how grateful I am for each and every one of these things.
