For those who wish
In the past, they were given as proof that one had copied a sutra and submitted it to the temple, but nowadays they are mostly given as a memento of visiting the temple.
Shokoji Temple had been refraining from issuing goshuin for a while due to damage to the stamps. During that time, troubles surrounding goshuin began to attract attention from the public.
While being resold is still the better option, there have been reports of verbal abuse, extortion, and even violent behavior surrounding goshuin.
So, Shokoji Temple considered resuming the issue of temple seals.
Why does Shokoji Temple issue goshuin stamps?
It is something that should be issued as proof that one has recited the Nembutsu.
At Shokoji Temple, we will only issue temple seals to those who request them, who have recited the Nembutsu at our "Monthly Memorial Service" or "Copying Sutras" meetings.
If you would like to receive a goshuin, please come and participate in one of the ceremonies.
Monthly memorial service: First Sunday of every month from 9:00am
Sutra copying session: First Sunday of every month from 2pm
