[Itabashi Station Garden] Nutritional Watermelon and Obon

Hello, this is Shokoji Nursery School, Itabashi Station Front.

This time, we will be bringing you educational watermelon and Obon!

We did a watermelon smash as part of our food education class🍉

Use your five senses to learn about the size, weight, and smell of the watermelon.

I was able to develop an interest in food through an experience unique to summer⭐️

In addition, the watermelon smashing event was a great opportunity to deepen relationships with friends in a fun atmosphere, cheering each other on and being cheered on by others.

Since it was Obon, we cleaned Nono-sama to express our gratitude to our ancestors.

It was impressive to see the happy expressions on the children's faces as they wiped it with a cloth and exclaimed, "It's sparkling clean!"

We also created a "Spirit Horse."

These spirit horses are made so that the spirits of ancestors can travel back and forth without getting lost.

By explaining to the children in an easy-to-understand way that "You should say thank you to your mom and dad's family," they seemed to understand.

In this way, children become familiar with traditional Obon customs through play, which gives them an opportunity to come into contact with Buddhism, and I feel this leads to Buddhist childcare.
